Federal President of the Council, Romann, has expressed a central responsibility for deportations of rejected asylum seekers.
Romann said in the “Interview of the Week” of the news that it was procedural and faster to leave the procedure completely to the federation. At present, a federal authority decides whether a migrant has a right to asylum. If this is not the case, however, responsibility will be transferred to the local authorities and the state police. Had the Bund the Berlin-assassin Amri did not have to give the state authorities, it might have come to a deportation, said the police president.
The main objective of the Federal Police was to prevent unauthorized entry to Germany. Here, it was helpful to provide the Confederation with additional competences, as demanded by the Minister of the Interior de Maiziere, Romann said. The border area, for example, needs to be redefined and extended. In addition, improvements were made in the deportation procedure with those countries whose citizens wanted to take back only with papers. According to international law, there is no obligation to provide them with such documents.
